“Sometimes the best way to figure out who you are is to get to that place where you don’t have to be anything else.”

This quote I believe is the closest representation of the journey I’ve embarked upon in the last 6 years. Looking back now, the decision to go Tasmania for studies was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Tassie was where I discovered myself. It was there that I got to a place where I didn’t have to be anything else, I didn’t have to be the person people had labelled me to be. It was there that I could be ME.
I would never have thought that I’d be sitting here today and sharing about my culinary joys and mishaps with millions around the world. But in truth, it is a journey worth sharing. I, who once could not even cook rice or fry an egg properly, have come very far to where I am today. I’ve truly discovered the joy of picking up a whisk and a wok and allowing my imagination to run its full course in my haven. It is in my kitchen that I can be myself. The pleasures of whipping up decadent desserts, experimenting and modifying new recipes, and even frying an egg can bring such joy to my heart.
I’m a self-taught cook/chef/baker/artist – whatever term you would like to use to describe me. Many of my recipes were the result of LOADS of failures! Ask my ex-housemates and they can testify to the amount of times they’ve had to be my guinea pigs! Nowadays, I work full-time as a restaurant manager and also run a home-catering and events planning/management business. I’ve recently relocated to Sydney, Australia and am still trying to find my way around this big city. So, please come join me as I embark on my journey of self-discover and as I discover the simple pleasures of life!

Hi,
Interesting about you. The journey of self discovery is never ending. I too, sort of found a bit of myself whilst in the UK many years ago and more so out here in Aussie land.
Saw your Ayam Percik recipe and I’m craving for it now. Will have to do it some other time as very busy now. Did Rendang, Satay, Dhal, Canai, Sambal Udang Kering/Mango, Rojak, Mean Roast, Turkey, Hokkien Mee, Tom Yum, Pad Thai and Sagu Gula Melaka over the last month or so…Yumm.
What of a person are you? What have you discovered?
Me
Sydney.
